Tom Kottler

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder

HealthPrize is the fourth start-up venture that Tom has founded or been associated with as part of the initial management team, including MedAptus, a healthcare IT company in Boston, Advanced BioHealing (acquired by Shire in May 2011 for $750M) which developed cell-based wound care products, and VeinAid, which developed a non-invasive technology to treat varicose veins. Tom was also on the management team of a mid-sized CRO (contract research organization) that conducted trials for pharmaceutical companies that was sold to a Fortune 500 company.

He received his undergraduate degree from Middlebury and his law degree from the George Washington University. Tom is a member of the HealthPrize Board of Directors.

John Ragland

Chief Product Officer & Head of Client Services

John has 24 years of experience in creating new businesses within online media and consumer package goods. He is the founder of Contagion, an interactive marketing and development firm, and—voted Best of the Web by Forbes, Yahoo Internet Life, and USA Today and later acquired by The Active Network.

John is also the co-founder of Greenfield Healthy Foods—makers of fat free snacks, which was acquired by Campbell Soup Company—and of the Connecticut Challenge, a nonprofit organization that funds programs to improve the quality of lives of cancer survivors.

He received his BS degree in marketing from Pepperdine University.

David Rector

Chief Financial Officer

David’s financial and operational leadership stems from more than 20 years working for public and private companies in the automotive, media and healthcare industries. Prior to joining HealthPrize, David held senior management positions within Ford Motor Company, The Nielsen Company and a private equity-owned vision care company.

David received his Master‘s in Business Administration from Wharton and his Bachelor’s degree from Boston College. He is also a volunteer of the Ridgefield Boys and Girls Club and youth sports.

Katrina Firlik, MD

Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder

Prior to founding HealthPrize Technologies, Dr. Firlik was a neurosurgeon in private practice at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, CT, and on the clinical faculty at Yale University School of Medicine.

Katrina completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University with a major in cultural anthropology. She attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University, and did her neurosurgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the largest neurosurgery centers in the country, where she was the first woman accepted to the program. Katrina also completed a specialty fellowship in epilepsy surgery at Yale University.

Eric Simmerman

Chief Technology Officer

A hands-on technical leader of early-stage endeavors from inception through go-to-market, Eric Simmerman has more than 20 years of experience in designing and implementing advanced technology initiatives both domestically and abroad for organizations such as Bank of America, FINRA (NASD), Government of Canada (PWGSC), IBM, Nortel Networks, Altavista Europe, and PG&E National Energy Group. Eric is a published author of various technical articles and an information systems educator. Most recently, he led engineering efforts at Social Tables, a venture-backed SaaS company with over 4,000 business subscribers worldwide.

Eric has a B.S. in Computer Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Matt Ellenthal

Vice President Business Development

Matt has 30 years of experience in consumer and BTB marketing with expertise in product and business development plus customer acquisition and retention. Prior to joining HealthPrize, he held multiple key roles over ten years with Walker Digital, a privately owned R&D lab that uses a deep understanding of human behavior to innovate in a digitally connected world.

Matt is a graduate of Middlebury College.

Vishal Khanna

Director of Marketing & Communications

Vishal has nearly 20 years of experience helping innovative companies build business-focused brands that increase engagement and drive growth. He was most recently head of marketing for Wake Forest Innovations, a cutting-edge incubator for new scientific discoveries.

Vishal received the 2015 Content Marketer of the Year award for his groundbreaking work in science content marketing. A former North Carolina Writers’ Fellow, he received his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Naropa University and his Master of Public Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
