Norwalk, Conn. – March 7, 2018 – HealthPrize Technologies, LLC, and West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (NYSE: WST), today announced the renewal of their strategic collaboration to provide connected health solutions to life science companies and the patients they serve. The partnership, established in 2014, integrates West’s injectable drug delivery systems with HealthPrize’s digital adherence and engagement platform. Together, the electronically connected systems track when patients take their medication, help to educate patients about their disease and medication and use that information to reward patients for taking their medication as prescribed.
“By combining West’s expertise in drug delivery systems and HealthPrize’s patient adherence and engagement platform, we’re providing pharma with an end-to-end connected health ecosystem that influences patients to better and more consistently use their injectable devices, and provides valuable data to physicians treating those patients,” said Tom Kottler, CEO and Co-founder of HealthPrize. “Data are shared between the two technologies, enabling us to provide rewards and reinforcement in real time, thereby helping to improve outcomes.”
Integration of the HealthPrize platform with West drug delivery systems produces useful adherence data that provides pharmaceutical companies with meaningful trend and analytics data. The companies have also worked to provide a universal solution, that can be adapted for non-electronic devices, and allows data transfer to the engagement platform via smart labels, RFID/NFC and Quick Response code scanning.
“This unique partnership between West and HealthPrize offers our pharmaceutical customers a way to impact patient behavior through education, rewards, and engagement,” said Chris Evans, Vice President, Global Innovation at West. “The solution is especially valuable for patients using injectable medications for chronic diseases with historically low adherence. In such cases, improvements in drug utilization can lead to substantial improvements in patient outcomes.”
West provides solutions for parenteral drug products for a range of patient needs and covering a variety of dose volumes and drug viscosities. West currently markets several unique drug delivery systems, including the SmartDose® electronic wearable injector and the SelfDose® injector. West is also one of the largest contract manufacturers of pens and auto-injectors globally, producing more than 100 million of these devices each year.
Life science companies worldwide use HealthPrize’s technology to develop digital experiences to improve adherence, increase health literacy, and provide brand differentiation. The HealthPrize platform uses gamification, behavioral economics, and consumer marketing concepts to engage and motivate patients, and results in 52% average lifts in adherence for client brands.
